American Heart Association Instructor Course

The following steps are necessary to become an American Heart Association Instructor.

CPR Certification

Instructor candidates must already be certified in the course you want to teach (e.g., Heartsaver, BLS, etc.) This certification should be current and from the American Heart Association  

Age Requirement

Must be at least 18 years old. 

Basic Experience

While no specific teaching experience is required, having some background in healthcare or emergency response can be helpful.

Complete a Core Instructor Course

No need to search for a Training Center. Our course is all-inclusive.  Enroll in the course. This will prepare you to teach CPR and First Aid courses. Topics include teaching strategies, adult learning principles, and AHA-specific course guidelines. Complete and online Instructor Essentials Course. 

In-person Course Skills

Attend an interactive in-person session after completing the online Essentials Course. Pass the skills and exam. Be monitored or co-teach with an experienced instructor.
